Cost Savings
Locating the new Lincoln Grade School on the Washington Middle School campus streamlines daily operations, reducing expenses for students and taxpayers.
Shared Resources
Combining spaces and being in close proximity creates greater efficiency and expands learning opportunities, benefiting students and educators.
Safe Travel
Improved traffic flow ensures safer drop-offs while remaining walkable and bike-friendly for families. These optimizations will be seen at the new LGS as well as at WMS.
Connected Learning
Closer proximity means a more connected learning experience for all students, maintaining continuity in their entire District #52 experience.

Land Acquired
The project area has recently expanded to encompass over 32 acres, including a significant addition with the acquisition of land previously occupied by Washington Christian Church, located at 1012 N Main St, Washington, IL 61571. This strategic expansion not only increases the development footprint but also enhances the potential to serve the community by providing more space for potential development and community-oriented projects.
The inclusion of the former church property opens up numerous possibilities for its integration into the larger development, offering a unique opportunity to blend new initiatives with a site of historical significance. This strategic expansion reflects a commitment to thoughtful growth and community enhancement.
Proposed Project Timeline

If the referendum doesn’t pass, the district must still invest as much as $19 million in required renovations to meet state Health, Life, and Safety laws. A phased approach could drive costs to $23 million, potentially increasing tax rates higher than the proposed increase on the ballot.
Is There a Plan B?
Two Schools, One Campus
By constructing the new Lincoln Grade School on the same grounds as Washington Middle School, we can unite our learners under one campus. This approach creates cost efficiencies, fosters collaboration, and streamlines daily operations—ensuring a stronger, more cohesive community for our students, families, and staff.
